silent neighbors

I love old cemeteries, especially those found in the lovely antiquated cities of the South. It must have something to do with the droopy tress, Spanish Moss and the idea that something or someone could be lurking behind one of those massive headstones ... very reminiscent of John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Don't you think?

My sister and I visited this particular cemetery in Charleston a couple of years ago. We share a love of these spooky places and took so many pictures I wore out my battery.

a very pretty indian

At home, we've been obsessed with the new HBO show Treme. The show begins just months after Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast and illustrates the realities of the disaster and how New Orleanians tried (and are to this day, still trying) to rebuild their homes and lives after the levees broke.

I love New Orleans.

peacocks rock

Peacocks are said to represent glory, immortality, royalty, incorruptibility ... a symbol of honor and the beauty that can be attained when we aim to better ourselves. My uncle has always had flocks of them running wild on his ranch and I would wander around searching for stray tail feathers to use for dress-up. My cousin is the best at mimicking their funny squawks!
